IPTV EPG not updating? Fix missing guides and wrong times
Troubleshoot a missing IPTV programme guide, stale listings or wrong EPG times. Check your source, channel matching and time settings before resetting your app.
Start with the symptom, not a reset
If your IPTV channels play but the programme guide is blank, investigate the guide before changing playback settings. EPG stands for electronic programme guide: it supplies schedule information, not the video. Our M3U, Xtream and EPG explanation covers those separate roles.
First check whether the problem affects every channel, a few channels, or only the displayed times. Write down one affected channel and the date you are viewing. Return the guide to today before comparing anything. A guide positioned several days ahead can look empty even when today's information is present.
The checks below are a troubleshooting sequence, not a promise that every channel has EPG coverage. Available guide data depends on the service and feed. Menu labels and refresh controls also vary between players.
Choose the right next check
| What you see | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Every channel says “No information” | Guide source, update result and selected date |
| Only a few channels are blank | Coverage and channel matching for those exact feeds |
| Yesterday's listings remain after an update | Whether the update finished and the source contains newer data |
| Correct programme names, consistently wrong times | Device time zone and any guide offset |
| A different channel's programmes appear | Channel assignment or regional feed selection |
| Guide works, but video does not play | Account/playback diagnosis in the buffering checklist |
1. Confirm which guide your account uses
Check the account setup instructions supplied by your provider. Some setups use a separate XMLTV address; others obtain guide data through the account connection. Do not invent an EPG URL by changing part of your playlist address.
If you were given a separate guide URL, compare it privately with the saved value. Watch for missing characters, spaces introduced while copying, and an address belonging to a previous server. If you recently changed your chosen server, ask support whether the guide settings also need to change.
An EPG address may contain account credentials. Do not paste it into public URL checkers or attach an unredacted settings screenshot to a public forum.
2. Run one refresh and record the outcome
Use the player's documented guide-update control, if available. Let that operation finish before starting another. Note its result: a successful completion, an error, or no visible progress. If the app exposes the last successful update time, record that too.
Reopen today's guide and compare the same channels you noted at the start. If nothing changes, give support the update result rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app. An apparent refresh alone does not establish that the upstream source supplied new listings.
Avoid clearing all app data as an early step. Before any reset, make sure you can restore your own account and saved configuration. Follow your player's documentation if it offers a narrower guide-cache reset.
3. Investigate channels that are missing individually
Compare an affected channel with one whose guide works in the same account. Record their complete displayed names, including regional or time-shifted variants. Ask support whether a schedule is supplied for the affected feed.
For example, “Example News” and “Example News +1” should not be treated as interchangeable just because their names look similar. If your player allows manual guide assignment, note the existing assignment before changing it. Stop if you cannot identify the intended schedule confidently.
4. Separate clock errors from channel errors
Check the device's date, clock and time zone first, using its normal system settings. Then record any offset already configured in the player. Compare a known programme on two or three channels. Does each listing have the same discrepancy, or is only one feed affected?
XMLTV timestamps can include a time-zone offset; the format specifies UTC when no explicit zone is supplied. A raw timestamp therefore needs its zone interpreted before comparison with a local clock. For example, 18:00 +0000 and 23:00 +0500 describe the same instant. XMLTV format specification.
If every tested channel is displaced by the same amount, review the player's documented time setting. If only one is wrong, investigate that channel's assignment or source first. Avoid shifting the entire guide to compensate for one incorrect feed.
Treat a one-hour error around a clock change as a clue, not a diagnosis. Check a second programme and the selected region before adding a permanent offset. Change one setting at a time and restore it if the comparison does not improve.
A verified example: Kodi IPTV Simple
Kodi's IPTV Simple add-on documents separate XMLTV settings for local files and remote URLs, along with an EPG time-shift control. It also documents how playlist tvg-id values match XMLTV channel identifiers. Case sensitivity is configurable. These details explain why a valid guide source can still need correct channel matching.
Its global and per-channel shift settings can interact. Record both before adjusting either; a guessed global correction can make other channels wrong. This example applies to IPTV Simple, not to an identically named menu in every player. Check the official add-on documentation and our Kodi setup guide for the relevant configuration route.
Send support a report they can act on
Include the chosen server, device model, player name and version, two affected channel names, selected guide date, and last refresh result. For timing issues, include your time zone and one example of the expected and displayed programme times.
Use XIPTV's contact options and redact passwords, full playlist URLs and private guide addresses from screenshots. Ask whether the affected channels have current guide coverage. A missing source listing needs a different response from a wrong local setting.
Common questions
Does a blank guide mean my subscription expired?
That symptom alone is not enough to decide. Check whether your account can load and play a channel, then ask support to confirm account status and guide availability separately.
Should I replace the guide with a random free EPG?
Confirm a source compatible with your actual channel list first. A larger schedule file does not prove it describes the same channels or regional feeds.
Can I fix every missing channel by changing the time offset?
An offset addresses displayed timing. Start by establishing whether the channel has any schedule entries and whether the correct schedule is assigned.
